Drake continues to improve with "nippling" (sucking his food from a bottle). We forgot to ask his nurse how many times a day he nipples his milk, but we know he's being nippled at least 4 or 5 times a day, out of 8 feedings a day. He is getting much more coordinated, but the little piggie tends to suck too much milk into his mouth before he remembers to swallow, so he struggles to swallow huge mouthfuls. Drake is steadily gaining weight - he was 4lb 5 oz at last night's weigh in.
Leo is doing well with nippling too. He is taking 3 or 4 feedings a day from a bottle, which is a huge improvement over just 2 days ago, when he couldn't suckle at all. Since he is so tiny and his muscles aren't very strong (yet), he's being bottle-fed by his nurses only. It takes a lot of skill to get such a tiny baby to suck down a whole bottle. But Leo's a champ - he finishes his bottles more quickly than his brother. Leo was a tiny poop machine yesterday, so he lost a small amount of weight. He weighed 2lb 15.5 oz.
After eating, both boys are sweet snuggle bugs. They make little cooing and grunting noises, close their eyes, and just absorb being loved. Today, when we put the babies back in their crib, Drake just couldn't keep his eyes off his brother.
