So Much to Talk About!

First off, I need to apologize for how much time has passed since our last post. The boys are busy little fellas, and most days it's all we can do to keep up with them.

Here's proof: Drake attempting to scoot out the doggie door, approximately his 28th attempt of the day (picture taken 9.17).

The boys are constantly on the go - they would rather be on the floor exploring the world than just about any other possible baby activity (video shot 9.17 - Drake is wearing stripes, Leo is wearing puppies).

As I said in my last post, the boys have an amazingly close friendship already. They roam around together like a pack of baby sea turtles. Much to our dismay, the boys would rather play with each other than to play with mom and dad, however they do follow us around if they think we're doing something interesting. In the next photo, the boys scooted into the kitchen to watch their dad make their nighttime bottles. Drake is wearing yellow and Leo is wearing white long sleeves, and the photo was taken on 9.27.

Long naps have become a thing of the past. If we lay them down for naps in their own cribs, they chatter with each other from across the room. If we lay them down in the same crib at nap time, they giggle and play themselves to sleep (photo taken 9.11, Drake is wearing a white tee shirt and Leo is wearing plaid nerd shorts).

The boys are eating more and more solid foods every week. Typically they have baby cereal for breakfast, some pureed baby vegetables for lunch, and for dinner they usually get tiny, cut up pieces of what Matt and I eat for dinner. In the following series of photos, the boys had pieces of carrots and potatoes for dinner, followed by teething biscuits for dessert. They are extremely messy eaters! Usually Otis and Penny eat most of Leo and Drake's dinner as the bits of food fall to the floor. Leo is wearing a brown bib with cowboys and horses on it, and Drake is wearing a purple bib with an astronaut dog pattern (taken 9.17).

Look closely at Leo's foot. Do you see it?

It's a piece of the teething biscuit, adhered to his little foot by a layer of slime. How did that even get there? Leo didn't care... all he knew was that biscuit was mighty delicious!

And Drake agreed:

But he wanted us to leave him alone so he could gnaw on the slimy thing in peace.

The boys are getting so good at eating big people food that we have started taking them to restaurants. The boys love restaurants, because we feed them all the (not messy) Cheerios they can eat (picture taken at Wildflower on 9.14). The boys behave themselves beautifully, of course, but we're always sure to leave a big tip because the boys drop a mountain of Cheerios on the floor.

While the boys are champion sitters if they are slightly supported, they're still pretty wobbly when they're sitting on their own. One of my friends in my moms of multiples club gave me brilliant suggestion: sit them in a laundry basket! The basket has become my favorite parenting aide, because it allows the boys to sit on their own but prevents them from falling over and bonking their heads, while giving them the opportunity to develop better muscle control and balance because they aren't being supported.

In this photo the boys are playing in the laundry basket, but Leo's a bit upset because Drake stole the caterpillar toy from him (9.20).

The laundry basket even works in the big boy bath tub! Drake is chewing on the washcloth (picture taken 9.14).

Leo seems to be very close to pulling himself into a sitting position from his belly, but he hasn't quite figured out the mechanics of it yet (picture taken 9.24).

Or at least that's what I think the baby downward facing dog is all about. And check out that chub!! He has rolls on the backs of his knees! Leo was weighed yesterday, and the little butterball is now up to 15 lb 2 oz.

Both babies have become very talkative lately. Here's a video of Drake chatting with me, taken on 9.22.

In other exciting news, the boys have sprouted their first teeth! On Saturday, September 20th, we saw a tiny slit in Leo's gum where a tooth was trying to poke through. We took a peek in Drake's mouth and saw a tiny white nub under his gum in the same spot. The slit was a tiny bit bigger on Sunday morning, but Drake's nub looked exactly the same as the day before. On Monday, the slit in Leo's gum was even bigger yet, and on Tuesday afternoon the tooth popped through. Amazingly, Drake's tooth broke through his gum within a few hours of Leo's tooth erupting. Both boys have a nearly invisible, but very sharp tooth nub on the bottom, just right of center. If you look very closely you can almost see Drake's tiny sliver of tooth in this picture, taken 9.24.

Could Drake be any more gorgeous?

Or Leo?

Don't those big blues just melt your heart?
